Schools & Children's Programs
Once Upon a Time Books created The Great Arkansas Book Giveaway to strive for improvements in child literacy. This literacy initiative is focused on distributing books to Arkansas children at no cost to families. To accomplish this goal, schools and local businesses team up with us to host a book giveaway where every child can pick out their own books to take home. We provide a mix of new and gently used books for all ages and reading levels, which helps children build their own home libraries and develop a love of reading.
The Great Arkansas Book Giveaway is special because the community funds the program. Local businesses, organizations, and donors contribute by sponsoring the giveaways, and their contributions can be matched or multiplied, which means that even small donations can help hundreds of children.
How the Program Works
1. Schools pick a date for the giveaway with our team.
2. We create a fundraising site where parents and families can donate to support their school’s goals.
3. Local businesses and sponsors support the program through direct donations or matching contributions.
4. Once Upon a Time Books takes care of supplying, delivering, and managing the books (usually through our Bookmobile or a pop-up setup).
5. Students get to choose their own books, which builds excitement and helps them feel connected, which is important for developing a love of reading.
